It's the start of the month, the air travel disruption from an Icelandic volcano are mostly gone but keep rearing up, the warmest and driest April in some years has passed and, as I type this with a cloudless clear sky, we seem to be in the midst of a cold snap. It's also time for me to write another newsletter keeping you informed of what's going on in the group.
Next programme
It's that time for me to call for any walks and social events for the Summer 2010 programme, covering 7th June to 5th September. Without people leading walks and putting on socials we won't have anything to enjoy. If you have a walk or social that you'd like to put on, please email Glyn and Sabine on surg.walks@surreyyoungwalkers.org.uk for walks and Andrea on surg.socials@surreyyoungwalkers.org.uk for social events by Monday 10th May.
Dates for the Diary:
SURG Camping Weekend 25th-27th June
Richard and Jacqueline Buckland have kindly agreed to organise this summer's SURG camping weekend and have asked me to pass on the following information about this.
This has been moved to the members only section of the website.
SURG barbecue
The barbecue will be held on Saturday 24th July at the usual venue. Full details will be in the next programme. Colin Towers has kindly volunteered to organise this. If you feel you can help out, in particular with making salads and desserts (we’ll be needing some greenery to help with the meat and booze!), please get in touch with him on surg.web@surreyyoungwalkers.org.uk.
Walking books at reduced prices
The Ramblers have a new online bookshop http://ramblers.eclector.com/ which stocks many walking books amongst other subjects. All books are a discount of typically about 10% and profits go towards the Ramblers.
