In this newsletter we have invites for two social events, details on our new internet calendar feed as well as reminders on submitting walks and reporting problems you see while on a walk .
Congratulations
Slightly belatedly, SURG would wish to welcome our youngest 'walker', Orla, who was born on Jan 30th. Proud parents Richard and Jacqueline Buckland, who met via SURG, brought her on her first walk aged just 5 weeks.
Keeping up to Date
Firstly, you can see our the events in the coming weeks at http://www.surreyyoungwalkers.org.uk/.
For socials and full contact details of walks, you will need to enter the username and the password you've been sent into the login area at the top right hand corner of your screen.
We've introduced a new internet calendar subscription feed. If you use Outlook or Google Mail (or your calendar software supports internet calendars) then visit http://www.surreyyoungwalkers.org.uk/programme/calendar.html for instructions on how to get started.
Submitting Walks or Events
Since the change to a rolling programme, the number of walks being submitted is starting to pick up and we now have walks most weekend days over the coming months and some into the summer months. That said, we still need more walks to fill the gaps and to ensure that we have a variety of distances and locations (especially lacking walks starting from stations) as well as new walk leaders, because we continue to rely on a limited number of volunteers. The more we have, the better our club becomes.
To help assist leaders, we have introduced a new walk and social event submission option, with the ability to submit directly from the website (http://www.surreyyoungwalkers.org.uk/programme/submit-event.html). This option speeds up the submission process and assists the walk and social secretaries by ensuring all the required information is entered in the same format. Also, to assist those who are new at submitting walk and social events, we have also updated the guidance on the website, see http://www.surreyyoungwalkers.org.uk/walks/leading-a-walk.html for full details. If you need further information or guidance about submitting a walk or social, please don't hesitate to email the appropriate secretary.
Keeping an Eye out
Holly, our footpath officer, would like you all to get in touch if you see any problems with footpaths - such as fly-tipping. You can contact her at mailto:surg.footpaths@surreyyoungwalkers.org.uk.

The camping weekend, in Afriston East Sussex, is open for bookings - we've still got spaces left. Further details are available at http://www.surreyyoungwalkers.org.uk/events2011/camping-weekend.html - contact Richard or Chris to book your place.
Annual BBQ (20 August)
Hold this date for our annual BBQ at Ripley Scout hut- further details and a booking form will appear at http://www.surreyyoungwalkers.org.uk/events2011/bbq.html.
Look forward to seeing you on a walk soon.
Colin.
