Chair

Chris has lived in the Surrey-Hampshire borders since 2004 and took up walking in 2005 to keep fit, get out of the house and into some fresh air. He enjoys country walks of up to 15 miles with good views and preferably visiting a good pub serving real ale or traditional cider.

As Recruitment Officer, Chris helps SURG to grow by encouraging prospective members to join the Group. His role is to:

  • Use the walk attendance forms to build a list of prospective members coming on our walks, and give feedback on walk attendance to the committee.
  • Get in touch with prospective members to give them a warm welcome, letting them know how to join the Group and the benefits of doing so.
  • Get involved with the recruitment of new members, and keep membership development on the committee agenda.

Thinking of standing for Chair?

A good Chair is:

  • Committed to the success of the Group, and the charitable aims of The Ramblers.
  • Able to motivate fellow committee members, and encourage discussion in meetings.
  • Well-organised and reliable.

You can get support from other committee members, or from Chairs of other Groups, and staff at The Ramblers Central Office may be able to point you in the direction of resources to help chair meetings effectively.
